The Tallest Of Smalls by Max Lucado (Giveaway w/a bonus signed book)

We have many Max Lucado books on our bookshelf, but it seems the ones I'm drawn to lately are his children's books, especially his new book, The Tallest of Smalls, which was just released on November 3rd.

Lucado's children's books seem to touch my heart, even as an adult. The Tallest of Smalls, is set up as a parable from Max Lucado's recent adult release, Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear.

Did you ever go through a time in your childhood when you felt like you weren't part of the "in crowd"? Ever feel like you didn't matter? Ever feel not pretty enough? Smart enough? Talented enough? If you are like me the answer is a resounding YES. Many of us have struggled with these well into adulthood.

Now think of a child struggling with these very things. What do they need? What did you need? They need some reminders that they are loved....that they are special....that they are important. Chocolate chip cookies anyone?

This is the basic theme of The Tallest of Smalls, a story about a young boy named Ollie, of the Too Smalls of Stiltsville. He's a boy who has patches on his pants, socks that don't match, and a not-so-funny laugh. He lives in a town with people who decide who's in and who's out. Know anywhere like that? Any school? The town gives away awards, pairs of stilts, to the prettiest, the funniest, and the best, so they can move up the ladder and look down on all the Too Smalls.

One day Ollie surprisingly gets picked....he gets a pair of stilts. But he soon learns that it's not so easy being up high, and he comes crashing down to rejoin the uncool. In that moment, Ollie has to be feeling the lowest of lows, and that's when he's tapped on the shoulder by Jesus. Jesus reminds him that he's not too short and he's not too small. Jesus reminds him that he has always been loved and he always matters, no matter whether he has a pair of stilts or not.

This is such a beautifully written book. I'm looking forward to giving it to my daughter when she is a bit older. It's created as a gift book, with a special page in front with a To, From, and Date, where you can write a special note.

You can even look at all the illustrations through the magic of this Flip Book.
